The Pastime Projects coil form has been revised to include a heat shrunk joint. The joint is edge glued between the form and the octal base. While the coil forms of old may have used 4 pin or 5 pin sockets, these have become scarce. The use of the octal bases makes more sense and gives us some choices in the amount of taps and/or coil windings we can combine on one form. An obvious disadvantage of the octal socket is more friction in inserting or removing the coil form. We have found the extra unused pins can be carefully cut off. We have easily removed every other pin and ended up with a 4 pin socket which is much easier to work with. It still allows the alignment of the coil into the correct pins in the base because of the keyed center pin on octal bases. You can choose how many pins you need on your project. We remove pins 1,4,5,and 7 in our 6V6/6L6 MC (metal chassis) transmitter kit. If you prefer, of course, you can build with all pins intact; just insert and remove with care. The 8-pin plug-in coil forms fabricated by Pastime Projects have been glued together using Loctite Stik n’ Seal Non-Toxic adhesive manufactured by Henkel Corporation Avon Ohio. www.loctiteproducts.com. The resulting bond has proven quite strong on our coil forms. If the bond should break, we would recommend you simply re-glue using the above product or similar suitable adhesive. Parts should be cleaned before gluing. We have now included a heat shrink band around the joint between the base and coil form for extra holding power. See Photos. |
